When a motor is overloaded and the rotor is locked, the heat generated from the motor becomes higher and it melts insulation film of the winding. It causes short circuit between the winding. That is called layer short.
Over run amount with open brake ・Rated voltage
・Motor alone (without gear)
Overrun means that the rotor of a motor rotates for a certain time by inertia after the power is turned off.
There is a way to stop the overrun instantly by making short between motor terminals when power is turned off. This is called short brake.
Be aware that short brake shortens life time of motor brushes because it uses a generator action of a motor and current value temporarily gets high.
